Reconciliation Commission begin public sessions to hear testimony by
witnesses of atrocities committed by the Shining Path insurgency in the
1980s and 1990. The office in Ayacucho is one of four opened in recent
months by the government's newly formed Truth and Reconciliation
Commission to determine the root causes and political climate that led
to the deaths of 30,000 people and to the disappearance of at least
