FILIPINO DEVOTEES TAKE PART IN THE ANNUAL BLACK NAZARENE PROCESSION IN MANILA.
Thousands of Filipino devotees take part in the annual Black Nazarene procession in Quiapo district in Manila January 9. Mayhem is imminent in every Nazarene procession, as devotees struggle to get close to the wooden cross-bearing Black Nazarene image. It is believed that wiping a piece of cloth or just touching the image can bring miracles or good luck. The Black Nazarene was brought to the Philippines by Spanish priests in the early 16th century and is said to be miraculous.
