Protesters shout "Justice for Jennifer" as they march at the U.S. embassy in Manila October 16, 2014. Police in the Philippines filed murder charges on Wednesday against a U.S. Marine over the death of a transgender Filipino he met in a bar outside the former U.S. naval base of Subic Bay. The Philippine government also wants to take custody of Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton while he stands trial, said a senior Philippine official, who warned that the case could damage military ties between the allies. The banner reads "No to Balikatan", in reference to shoulder to shoulder Philippine-U.S. military exercises, "Junk VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement) and EDCA means: (Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement)", and "Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Alliance of Nationalists)", an activist group the protesters belong to.
