Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger gives a thumbs-up in Clovis, California,

meeting later in the evening. Taking the rare step of supporting one
Republican candidate over another, the board of directors of the
California Republican Party endorsed Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial bid
in the October 7 recall election. 17 members of the 21-seat board who
were present at a special meeting voted unanimously to back
Schwarzenegger over state Senator Tom McClintock, who has trailed the
Austrian-born actor in the polls and is seen by party leaders as likely
