FORMER US SENATOR MOSELEY-BRAUN ANNOUNCES RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY.
Surrounded by family and friends former U.S. Senator of Illinois Carol
Moseley-Braun, the first black woman elected to the U.S. Senate,
announces her plans to form an exploratory committee for a run as the
Democratic party's nominee for the presidency of the United States at
the University of Chicago, February 18, 2003. Moseley-Braun, a former
Illinois state lawmaker and Cook County official, was elected to the
Senate in 1992 - a race she decided to enter after watching what she
called the dismissive attitude displayed by the all-male Senate
Judiciary Committee toward Anita Hill during the 1991 confirmation
hearings for Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. REUTERS/Scott
