POPE JOHN PAUL II RECEIVES A MURAL PAINTING FROM PRISONERS IN ROME'S REGINA COELI PRISON.
Pope John Paul II receives a mural painting made by prisoners, symbolising the Pope and the Church as protector of the people during the biggest misfortunes of the 20th century, during a mass in the atrium of Rome's Regina Coeli prison, the capital's historic men's jail on the River Tiber July 9. On his homily the Pope repeated his call for a gesture of clemency for the world's prisoners to coincide with the Holy Year.
