Pope John Paul comforted victims of Slovakia's communist past at a mass
for tens of thousands on Friday, partially allaying growing fears over
his health. Although the 83 year-old pontiff appeared in better form

decided that a cardinal would read most of his sermon to ease his
burden during an open air mass in the old city of Banska Bystrica.
