PORTUGUESE PRIME MINISTER GUTERRES ARRIVES AT THE SCENE OF DISASTER.
Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres arrives at the scene of where a bridge collapsed over the Douro river at Castelo de Paiva 30kms from Oporto March 5, 2001. Some 70 people were feared dead in northern Portugal after a bus and two cars plunged into a river when the bridge they were crossing collapsed late on Sunday. In the first official word on the death toll from what would be one of Portugal's worst disasters in living memory, Public Works Minister Jorge Coelho said there was no doubt the number of victims was high. No survivors have been found during the night.
