Foz do Cobrao, Portugal
Young girl searches for gold on the waters of Foz do Cobrao June 17, 2012. Ti Manel, 85, was once among several prospectors searching for gold along the Cobrao riverside in inner north Portugal. He recalls they used to extract about one kilo of gold per year in the 50's. Ti Manel now spends his days at a local day retirement home and his legs are too weak for him to still walk down to the river. It is up to tourists now to squat by the river, holding a plate in shallow water, in search of shiny rocks. Photo taken June 17, 2012.
