A girl is helped by her partner to adjust her red waistband prior to
the parade on Tomar city July 6, 2003. Every four years the central
Portuguese city of Tomar holds the Trays Festival and each girl makes a
tour of around 6 kilometres carrying trays full of breads and coloured
paper flowers of her height along the old downtown streets. Girls are
dressed entirely in white since the early years of the festivities on a
symbolic coming-of-age rite. The 2003 Festivities were participated by
700 girls and attend by more than 100.000 spectators. REUTERS/Jose
