COSTA RICANS SEARCH FOR A CRCODILE TO CATCH IT DURING HOLY WEEK.
Costa Rican men searching a cave as they try to catch a crocodile
during the tradition Holy Week in Ortega de Santa Cruz, the north of
the capital San Jose April 18, 2003. Hundreds of people of this small
town help catch the crocodile, while others watch from the riverbank,
during Good Friday celebrations, a tradition going back two hundred
years. Traditionally, the crocodile is sacrificed and is believed to
have healing powers. The ritual also reminds the people of Ortega that
