FILIPINO IFUGAO TRIBESWOMAN HOLDS STALKS OF NEWLY HARVESTED RICE IN
BATTAD RICE TERRACES.
A Filipino tribeswoman holds stalks of newly harvested rice in the
Battad rice terraces in Ifugao province, August 12, 2003. The Ifugao
people and their culture is in danger of extinction as younger
tribespeople are lured by the promise of better opportunities in the
lowlands. The fast deterioration of the Banaue rice terraces, from
which the Ifugao people get their livelihood, is also contributing to
the change in lifestyle of the tribe. REUTERS/Erik de Castro PP03120062
