FILIPINO IFUGAO TRIBESMEN POUND RICE IN VILLAGE OF HULUNGAN.
Filipino tribesmen in the village of Hulungan in Ifugao province pound
rice using the traditional means of "lalu" (pestle) and "luhong"
(mortar), August 12, 2003. The Ifugao people and their culture is in
danger of extinction as younger tribespeople are lured by the promise
of better opportunities in the lowlands. The fast deterioration of the
Banaue rice terraces, from which the Ifugao people get their
livelihood, is also contributing to the change in lifestyle of the
tribe. REUTERS/Erik de Castro
