A MAN AT THE MEMORIAL SERVICE ON THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1995 KOBE QUAKE.
A man prays and touches the name plate of a victim killed in the 1995 Kobe earthquake at the monument commemorating the quake in Kobe, western Japan January 16, on the eve of the earthquake that killed more than 6,000 people. The monument, with name plates of the victims on the wall, was unveiled today. Five years after Kobe was struck by a devastating earthquake, many victims still suffer deep psychological scars from the worst natural disaster to hit the nation in about three-quarters of a century.
