Earthquake survivors wait for relief materials in Poonch
Earthquake survivors wait for relief materials, outside their makeshift tents, at a relief camp in Poonch, 250km (156 miles) northwest from the northern Indian city of Jammu, October 16, 2005. The October 8 earthquake was most destructive to those parts of Indian and Pakistani Kashmir and Pakistan's northwest frontier that are both breathtakingly beautiful and not easy to access. The mountains are a problem, but so is the fact that India and Pakistan are at a tense stand-off over disputed Kashmir and Islamic militants are known to be active in the area, which makes parts of the region restricted to ordinary traffic.
