POPE JOHN PAUL II WAVES AS HE ARRIVES IN NEW DELHI.
Pope John Paul II waves to reporters upon arrival at New Delhi's airport during an unofficial welcoming ceremony November 5. Pope John Paul arrived in New Delhi to begin a 62-hour visit that has already been clouded by a controversy over evangelisation in Hindu-majority India. The Roman Catholic Pontiff, making his 89th trip outside Italy since he was elected 21 years ago, landed at the Indira Gandhi International airport aboard a special Alitalia flight after a seven hour journey.
