An actor in the costume of Ivan the Terrible Oprichniki, a personal squad of loyal horsemen notorious for the mayhem they caused in the population, rides on the set of Russian director Pavel Lungin's movie 'Ivan the Terrible and Metropolitan Philip' in the ancient town of Suzdal some 220 km (136.7 miles) northeast of Moscow March 20, 2008. Pyotr Mamonov, a former Rock musician turned devout Orthodox Christian, plays Ivan the Terrible in Lugin's latest film that is centred around the battle between power and moral, the director said on Thursday. The movie portraits the 16th century ruthless autocrat, the first Russian ruler to assume the title of tsar, as he is pitched against Metropolitan Philip, a humanitarian authority and the only notable figure that dared to openly criticise Ivan's bloody excesses.
