Long synanomous with staggering amounts of pollution, Nizhny Tagil has finally started to clean up, and in the last three or four years it has began to show results. At the start of the 1990s, the cities massive steel, tanks and metallurgy factories were pumping out 1,500 tons of air pollution per resident a year. Now the amount is down to 450 tons.
