Moscow, Russia
Lyudmila Alexeyeva, the head of the Moscow Helsinki Group, speaks to a Reuters journalist during an interview in Moscow June 26, 2012. The grandmother of Russia's human rights movement has been challenging the authorities since the start of the Soviet dissident movement in the 1960s and is still a force to be reckoned with at the age of 84. Alexeyeva and a small group of like-minded people began monitoring human rights in the Soviet Union nearly half a century ago. A decade later she helped found the Moscow Helsinki Group to check the Soviet Union's compliance with international human rights conventions. Picture taken June 26, 2012.
