White Afrikaner Roelf Meyer, co-architect with Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africas post-apartheid constitution, quit politics January 12, saying he could achive more in nonparliamenttary organisations. Meyer, a 52-year-old laywer who served apartheid-era cabinats in the defence, police and constitutional portfolios, said he wanted to help bolster civic organasations in their relationship with the democratic government he helped to create.
