FOR RELEASE WITH FEATURE BC-ARTS-SAFRICA-OWLS - The creative legacy of the reclusive Helen Martins has transformed the conservative South African village of Nieu Bethesda into a mecca for artists and writers. Martins, who committed suicide aged 78 in 1976, died alone and unknown, but left behind hundreds of sculptures and her magical "Owl House" which draw thousands of tourists every year to her sleepy, dusty village. Picture taken 31oct99.
