Secretary General Kofi Annan and his wife Nane, British conservationist
Jane Goodall, South African President Thabo Mbeki and his wife Zanele,
look at fossils on a visit 1 September 2002, to the Sterkfontein Caves,
some 40 kilometers north of Johannesburg. Gauteng province Premier
Mbhazima Shilowa hosted Thabo Mbeki as well as Kofi Annan here, at the
Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, a site at which some of the
most significant fossils, including remains of "Littlefoot", an almost
complete hominid skeleton believed to be some 3.3 million years old,
