Dakar, Senegal - Republic of
SENEGAL PRESIDENT DIOUF VOTES.
President Abdou Diouf votes in Senegal's
presidential election March 19 in which he faces long-time opponent Abdoulaye Wade. The voting booth in a Dakar schoolroom is not high enough to hide the six foot, eight-inch (2.06 metre), grey-haired Diouf. Voting began calmly on Sunday in Senegal's presidential election runoff, with Socialist President Abdou Diouf, in power for 19 years, neck and neck with five-times opposition candidate Abdoulaye Wade. The threat of violence hangs over the poll after Wade accused the Socialists of fraud-rigging and said he would not accept defeat in an unfair election.
