Welcomed by a four-tugboat salute, the new Carnival Spirit arrives at the Port of Miami-Dade April 24, 2001, following a trans-Atlantic voyage from its shipyard in Helsinki, Finland. The latest edition to Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines' 15-ship fleet, the US$375 million, 960-foot-long ship carries 2,124 guests and is slated to sail Alaska cruise routes through the summer and then return to Miami for Caribbean cruises beginning in November.
