Somali villagers stand on a dry river in the Bay region of Somalia August 21, 2001. Water sources have dried up forcing families to more their livestock in search of better conditions. According to United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) thousands of Somalis have been left without cereals or milk to live on, and warned today that more than half a million Somalis face a serious food crisis, following the almost total failure of the main rains in Southern Somalia, and that Somalia will need 40,000 metric tonnes of food assistance in the coming months to avoid a humanitarian tragedy.
