A Kashmiri man shows a mortar shell that hit his house in the village
of Athmuqam in Pakistan-held Kashmir. Athmuqam is the largest village
on the divide between Indian and Pakistani forces in Kashmir and the
closest one to it. Some 5,000 people have chosen to stay in the village
and try to lead normal lives. Known as the Line of Control (LoC), the
U.N.-brokered boundary was drawn across the Kashmir Himalayas the last
time the two sides stopped fighting an all-out war here in 1965.
