Spanish Police Director General Juan Cotino (R) helps unload packets of
cocaine in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands on
August 30, 2001 during an international police operation involving
Spain, the U.S. and Canada. Fourteen people were arrested and two boats
seized off the coast of French Guiana carrying about five tonnes of
cocaine. Spain is a major European entry point for drugs and contraband
