Michael Von Grueningen of Switzerland dressed as an old style skier
waves after finished the second run in the men's World cup slalom in
Hafjell, March 16, 2003. Michael von Gruenigen, who won the giant
slalom World Cup on Saturday and will retire from the sport after this
weekend, delighted the crowd by appearing at the start of the second
leg in old-fashioned ski garb.He struggled to make the tight turns on
his clumsy skis, clocked a time way off the scale and was disqualified
for missing a gate. But nothing wiped the smile off the 33-year-old Von
Gruenigen's face as the spectators cheered his farewell appearance.
