Ellen Mac Arthur of Great Britain (R) Yves Parlier of France (C) and Catherine Chabaud of France cross the staring line off Les Sables D'Olonne harbour on France's atlantic coast November 9 2000. 24 skippers are participating in the 4th Vendee Globe solo round-the-world sailing race, a non-stop 25,000 nautical miles race (46000 kms) which lasts at least three months.
