SRI LANKAN BUDDHIST MONK MURUTHTHETUWE ANANDA SPEAKS TO POLICE IN COLOMBO.
Sri Lankan Buddhist monk Muruththetuwe Ananda, who was at the meeting in a Sri Lankan suburb where a blast wounded three people, speaks to police on August 6, 2000. The grenade exploded during a meeting at the Nurses' Union office in the suburb of Narahenpita. No further details were immediately available. But police said the explosion was not the work of the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who have in the past carried out a number of attacks on political leaders and civilians.
