PEOPLE WAIT FOR BUSES IN THE SRILANKAN TOWN OF PUTTALAM.
People wait for buses in the Sri Lanka town of Puttalam, some 120 km (75 miles north) of the capital Colombo where the main opposition United Party (UNP) held an election rally September 29, 2000. The UNP said the ruling People's Alliance crippled public transport in the area to sabotage the rally. The Puttalam district has been one of the most violent in the run up to the October 10 parliamentary polls.
