Dasa Sil Matha Kelaniya Silavathi 90 years old, a female-lay follower of Buddhism poses in her temple in Colombo March 7, 2014. Silvathi got married when she was 16 years old and has 9 children, according to her daughter. After her husband's death when she was 50 years old, she decided to leave behind her lay life and become a dasa sil matha. Silavathi said that although she can no longer hear well, she is still able to go about her daily activities on her own. On March 8 activists around the globe celebrate International Women's Day, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th Century and has been observed by the United Nations since 1975. The UN writes that it is an occasion to commemorate achievements in women's rights and to call for further change. REUTERS/Dinuka Liyanawatte (SRI LANKA - Tags: SOCIETY RELIGION)
