Sri Lankan street sweepers work in Colombo May 29 in front of government posters asking the citizens to support the goverment's war effort against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels. Government troops have been locked in fierce battles with the LTTE rebels in Jaffna for over a month as the guerrillas try to recapture their former stronghold which fell to the military in 1996.
