A Sri Lankan soldier removes landmines from the main Colombo-Jaffna
road at Omantai, 271 kms (165 miles) north of Colombo in Vavuniya
district, February 7, 2002. The demining operation follows the easing
of the economic embargo on rebel-held areas by the Sri Lankan
government and is a prelude to reopening the road later in February.
