Civilians hold food given by government soldiers as they walk down road towards temporary refugee camp...
Some of the more than 100,000 civilians that have fled the area held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), hold food given by government soldiers as they walk down a road towards a temporary refugee camp in the town of Putumatalan located near the 'No Fire Zone' in northern Sri Lanka April 24, 2009. The Tamil Tigers declared a unilateral ceasefire on Sunday, but Sri Lanka dismissed it as a "joke" and said only a surrender would stop troops from finishing the last battle in Asia's longest modern war. The Tigers' truce declaration came as the U.N.'s top humanitarian chief was in the Indian Ocean island to press for the protection of tens of thousands of people trapped in the apparent final conventional battle of a war that started in 1983.
