Surinamese Roman Catholics pray during the ceremony to elevate the 129-year-old Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral to the category of Basilica Minore in Paramaribo April 6, 2014. The basilica, built between 1883 and 1885 completely of cedar and considered today the largest and tallest wooden structure in the Western Hemisphere, has interior carvings done by Maroons, runaway African slaves, after the abolition of slavery.
