TAIWANESE THROW "GHOST MONEY" TO MARK GHOST FESTIVAL IN KEELUNG.
Taiwanese men throw "ghost money" in the northern port of Keelung to
mark the traditional Chinese 'Ghost Festival' August 12, 2003. In
Chinese belief, the festival which is marked on the 15th day of the
seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar, comforts the spirits of
ancestral fishermen who perished at sea over the centuries. Burning
lanterns are sent out to sea under a late-summer full moon.
