TANZANIAN DOCTOR DAVID LISASI HOLDS A 18 KG (40 LB) FIBROID IN FRONT OF THE MEDIA IN DAR-ES-SALAAM, TANZANIA. Tanzanian doctor David Lisasi is helped by a nurse to hold a 18 kg (40 lb) fibroid in front of the media in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania June 4, 2004 that he removed from the uterus of a 32-year-old woman. Lissasi said Amina Saidi of Comoros had lived for more than five years with a fibroid in her uterus which grew six times the weight of an average healthy baby or two-fifths of her body weight. Uterine fibroids are areas of muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue that develop in or on the uterine wall. The tumours are benign, not associated with cancer and rarely become cancerous.
