UNION WORKER DISTRIBUTES PAMPHLETS OUTSIDE MOTOROLA PLANT IN HONG KONG.
A union worker (R) distributes pamphlets to employees of Motorola Inc
outside its plant at Hong Kong's Taipo industrial estate January 7,
2002. The technology giant said on Monday it will cut 700-800 jobs at
its Hong Kong semiconductor test and assembly facility and shift
production to its plants in Kuala Lumpur and the Chinese port city of
Tianjin. The cuts, among the 9,400 additional staff eliminations
announced in December by Illinois-based Motorola, deal another blow to
Hong Kong's reeling economy, which is teetering on the brink of
recession. REUTERS/Bobby Yip
