SERVICE LAUNCH IN TOKYO.
NTT DoCoMo Global Coordination Dept Assistant Manager Takako Yoshine
shows a chip and a Motorola Inc handset at the launch of an
international roaming service for users of its third-generation (3G)
mobile phone service FOMA in Tokyo May 19, 2003. NTT DoCoMo said that
starting June 1, FOMA users would be able to travel abroad and make and
receive calls from their regular FOMA numbers by transferring the chip
to their rented global system for mobile communications (GSM) handsets.
The GSM handsets are available for rent at airports in Japan.
