Julian Horn-Smith (R), CEO of Europe Vodafone, and Markus Rauh (L), Chairman
of the Board of Directors of Swisscom AG, announce at a news conference in
Zurich November 8, 2000 that Britain's Vodafone Group Plc will link up with
Switzerland's state-controlled Swisscom AG in a 2.54 billion US dollars
deal. Former monopolist operator Swisscom will sell a 25 percent stake in
its Swiss mobile telecoms division to the world's largest mobile operator.
