THUINGALENG MUIVAH GESTURES IN BANGKOK.
Thuingaleng Muivah, head of a faction of the banned National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), the most powerful guerilla group in the Indian region which borders Myanmar, gestures after private talks with a Indian government negotiator at a Bangkok hotel May 23, 2001. Muivah, who is not allowed to leave Thailand after serving seven months in a Thai jail last year on false passport charges, met with government negotiator K. Padmanabhiah to potentially broker a political solution for his troubled home of Nagaland in eastern India, which has been fighting against Indian rule since the mid 1950's.
