THAI ELEPHANT PLAYS XYLOPHONE IN PACHYDERM ORCHESTRA IN LAMPANG.
"Phong", a four-year-old male elephant plays a xylophone in an 11-piece
pachyderm orchestra conducted by U.S. conservationist Richard Lair (R)
at Thailand's Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang, 600 km (373
miles) north of Bangkok, on September 8, 2002. Buoyed by the success of
their first compact disc, longtime Thai resident Lair and compatriot
musician Dave Soldier are putting together a second CD featuring the
elephant ensemble, who play everything from xylophones to drums and
wind instruments. Picture taken September 8. REUTERS/Jason Reed
