A NEW ANTI-HIV/AIDS DRUG IS SHOWN NEXT TO CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE IN
BANGKOK.
A Bangkok pharmacist sits near a bottle of a revolutionary new cheap
anti-HIV/AIDS cocktail (L) April 1, 2002 which contains all three
ingredients until now only available seperately, as the new drug goes
on sale for the first time. The first batch of 120,000 tablets are now
available at state-run hospitals and drug stores for just 20 baht (46
U.S. cents) per tablet, bringing affordable AIDS-fighting
anti-retroviral medication to Thailand's 695,000 HIV/AIDS sufferers,
halving the current price of monthly medication to just 1,200 baht
($27.60) in a single dose "cocktail" instead of three separate drugs
currently available. REUTERS/Jason Reed
