A MONKEY SUFFERING FROM A SKIN DISEASE HOLDS ANESTHETIC DART IN
LOPBURI.
A monkey holding its baby holds an anaesthetic dart fired by Thai
soldiers in Lopburi province, 150 km (93 miles) east of Bangkok October
30, 2002. The monkey is one of almost 300 living at a palace in Lopburi
that suffers from a skin disease, and Thai soldiers are currently
sedating them with anaesthetics so they can tend to their disease. The
monkeys and the area in which they exist attract 3,000-4,000 tourists
each day, and local authorities intend to tackle the problem quickly to
keep it a popular tourist attraction. REUTERS/Sukree Sukplang
