THAI WOMEN'S DRINKING CONTESTANTS POSE WITH LIQUOR SHOTS FOR
PHOTOGRAPH.
Contestants pose during a drinking competition for women at a mall in
Bangkok January 16, 2003. The event, organised to promote the
consumption of locally made rice wine and fruit liqueur, has drawn an
outcry from some politicians and feminists who said the contest was a
"disgrace to the prestige of all Thai women." The government of Prime
Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is promoting the rural production of rice
wine and fruit liqueurs including pineapple, wildberries, corn, lychee,
