A security officer keeps an eye on the tracks of Lhasa Liuwu Railway Station in Tibet Autonomous Region July 4, 2006. The 1,142 km railway from Golmud in the far west of Qinghai province to the Tibetan capital Lhasa opened on Saturday amid a cresendo of propaganda. The railway link reached altitudes of over 5,000 metres (16,400 feet) on the Tibetan plateau.
