The United States announced it intends to impose new import quotas on
three categories of Chinese textile products - knit fabrics, brassieres
and dressing gowns. The imposition of U.S. quotas on Chinese bras and
other garments will probably be the first of a raft of pre-election
trade skirmishes, but the bra brawl is unlikely to burst into a Sino-US
