South Korean protesters clash with riot police near the WTO talks venue in Hong Kong
South Korean protesters clash with riot police as they try to reach the venue of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks in Hong Kong December 14, 2005. About 50 Koreans, many of them farmers bitterly opposed to the liberalisation of their country's rice market, were forced back by blasts of pepper spray as they repeatedly charged the front line of some 200 police in riot gear. An estimated 10,000 anti-globalisation protesters have converged on Hong Kong for the December 13-18 WTO meeting, including some 2,000 South Korean farmers, fishermen and activists, who have a reputation as the most militant anti-globalisation group in Asia.
