A tribal Indian tsunami survivor sits inside a relief camp in the badly affected Car Nicobar island, located in the southern part of the Indian Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, May 19, 2005. For thousands of years the Nicobarese tended their coconut plantations and reared pigs on the sandy shores of their island paradise. Today, the tribespeople have turned their backs on the sea. The tsunami that struck their shores five months ago not only killed thousands of Nicobarese, it cracked the very foundations of their economy and their society. Picture taken on May 19, 2005.
